Year of the Snake
The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble is a funk & street beat brass band, playing New Orleans and other modern improvised celebratory music. Led by saxophonist Ken Field, the group's colorful costumes and audience-pleasing rhythms have earned it invitations to entertain at numerous outdoor events. Notable Revolutionary Snake Ensemble performances have included First Night Providence, First Night Boston (with an audience of over 20,000!), Cambridge's World's Fair of Central Square street fair, Somerville's ArtBeat, the Mobius Artists Group ARTrages party, a featured guest performance at the Somerville Theater, and a march with the Mayor through the streets of Cambridge.

The Ensemble can be heard on Parade of Numbers, an animated counting piece regularly aired on the Children's Television Workshop program Sesame Street.

Nominated for best local jazz act by the Boston Phoenix and WFNX Radio, the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble includes a shifting roster of notable Boston-area musicians.

Year of the Snake is the group's first CD in over ten years of performance, and includes music by Field, Sun Ra, John Scofield, James Brown, and others. Liner notes were contributed by two-time Grammy-winning New Orleans music producer Scott Billington. The CD was listed as one of the top ten of 2003 by New York NPR affiliate WNYC, and by the New Orleans Gambit Weekly, and is available online at innova.mu.
